Idea Behind Blogging
I started penning Linux Blog to
chronicle my desktop Linux learning experience and to provide tips
and tricks to the server adminz around the globe. The idea of
blogging flashed through my thought when I was seeing the list of
notes that I stored on my mail box/PC right from the day one when I
started my life with Linux. The list was too large, some of them were
framed neatly just perfect enough to copy paste on to the blog but
some where short references kept for my understanding.
I started to ask myself what is the
purpose of these sitting there just in my Inbox/PC? It was then I
realized that it was time for a full-blown blog posts which will be
useful to all admins out there.
Life as an admin
Server administrators are the people
who run the millions of computers that make everything in our daily
lives possible. Without them, there would be no large working
computer systems, anywhere. Imagine a world where you have no email,
no instant messaging, and no websites. We've certainly come to the
point where it's hard to imagining a world without websites.
The role of managing these and other
computer systems is held in Operations groups. An Operations group
can include a variety of people, from the desktop support team for a
company, to the people who design and build large scale computing
infrastructures, to the senior management that help guide the
company's IT decisions. It is often a large and under recognized
group which has recently been getting a lot more attention for its
importance in organizations.
A good sysadmin needs be able to
communicate with a wide variety of people at many different levels,
to learn quickly and keep pace with technological change, and to have
a sound understanding of computer software, hardware, and networking
concepts. Therefore they need to be flexible, adaptable,
knowledgeable, and to have very good communication skills.
Problem-solving is one big aspect of
the job on top of the regular monitoring of the systems. They must
also try to anticipate problems before they arise. We adminz stay up
all the night, work 365X24X7 letting our clients to have a peaceful
sleep while we keep our eyes wide open ear sharpened and all ready to
keep us all ready during the work hours. A sysadmin career is
probably best suited to someone who is tech-savvy, who enjoys a
challenge, and who derives job satisfaction from working with and
helping people.
I would like to dedicate this blog to
all Admins out there..
